Race: MR Ultramarathon
Sunday, December 31, 2006
This morning's Ultramarathon at MR was no easy feat. Landslides detours, muddy tracks, slippery board walks and more. Having said all that, the weather was fantastic and definitely better than last year. We took a group photo before the flag off. The first lap was with Shut, Cfred, SassyRunner. I stopped for a short stretch and went for my second lap. Along the way, I bumped into my ex-colleague who brought his family out to the TreeTopWalk. They were surprised to hear that there is a race here in MR. Almost finishing my second lap, my stomach was growling! I stopped at pit stop for some bananas and took my initial third lap as a stroll. 20 minutes later, I continued to run. Reaching pit stop for lunch, I had some prata with sugar. It was a real treat to see Taz, Astrogirl and Run3. As each lap progressed, I saw less runners. Each runners were better spaced out then. I walked during the fourth lap after my lunch and the shoes seem to be giving problems. My left foot was feeling weird with muscle strain. Technically, I have not ran in this pair of shoes for such a long distance in trail. I have violated the Runners Code: "Do not try anything new on race day". I changed my shoes for my fifth lap but the strain already set in. Each step taken was a chore. Sumiko passed me to give me a thumb up to check if I was okay, I did a thumb up. Boy am I glad to see Roonz and Meteor cheering for me 400m away from the finishing point. They walked with me to the finishing point! *Tearing* Thanks! I was greeted by a row of supporters that was cheering for everyone who ran pass. They shouted, "More more more!" for more laps. I wish I could. There was still enough time. But, I just could not (fearing of stressing on the muscle strain further). I sent in my BIB to collect my Tshirt and certificate of participation. Just a mere 52.5km. Although I was hoping for one more lap. Next time, I guess! I thought Cosmic and SuperBoy would be doing the full event today. Our two official photographer, LaoKaYu and Mythos were there. Waa!! I got to shake Mythos, who recently completed his Busselton Ironman. W00T! Our unofficial a.k.a. last minute guest appearance photographers, Tiwazz and Sotong. Support of the supporters Cheow12 and Violet made guest appearance with their Jack Russell as well.
Thanks for all the goodies piled on the table, support and photographs. I even managed to get a shoulder massage from Sotong for my first lap! Talk about service. Every lap of completion, runners are greeted with shutter sounds from cameras.
Now, a run through of 2006. Great to know so many nice people around. Thankful for knowing all these people. To be able to take part in many races was bonus to me. The real treat happened in May and another smaller scale in October. There are still changes going on. But, they are all part of one's life. Looking forward to 2007.
The stage is set for 2007. Let the journey begin.

My alarm on my mobile fired off. *Mumble mumble mumble*
Took a cold shower *MUMBLE MUMBLE MUMBLE*
Got out of house and bought a lousy take-away coffee *Mumble mumble mumble*
I arrived at the Terminal to find that the rest did a car pool into Sentosa. My systems were still in a 50-50 mood. It changed when I reached the beach. I geared up and was ready to go! Sotong, IMD, Tiwazz, Cfred and Rooonz were already there. SV and Simon arrived on their bikes while Terence on foot, double quick time. IMD was already in the waters. SV stayed dry with a sore shoulder while the rest of us made some waves. Simon had to work and he left early. It seems that attraction of breakfast is greater than training (we are not called slackers for nothing), we went for a quick 5km run before attacking the bee hoon and chee cheong fun with our chopsticks. We wasted no time! I like someone's phrase of "fulfilling bee hoon and chee cheong fun's meaning of existence"! We tempted IMD with the food as he ran past. I took over SV and watched over our stuff as they went into the waters again. While everyone was back to enjoy watching IMD appreciating his breakfast, some hunks ran pass at easy looking but fast pace. They swam and ran as well. When we left, Sotong chatted with one of them where we stopped to talk a little.
We agreed on pie tasting for tomorrow's order and went over to China Square. We sampled a few version and Rooonz placed an order for tomorrow's showdown.
Drafts Round One
Thursday, December 28, 2006
Internet went down recently while Telcos are trying to reroute and get the cables back in business. All these caused by the recent earth quake that took place at Taiwan. The same case of Internet failure happened some years back. Let's hope everything is okay at Taiwan though we heard news of casualties and fatalities.
Recently, it has been pouring daily. I am glad that I was able to run a little this morning.
A draft discussion on our next trip took place today. Everything is still in its infant stage. More checking needs to be done.
Dreams. Freaky. I wish I have some explanation. But, ... I can't.
Funny, Anticipation

Through MSNs and SMSes, all the can-you, would-you coordination, we executed the plan. It turns out to be really weird. I was left dumbfound. *Shrugs*
Exciting. In less than a week's time, we will attempt the Ultramarathon. For those who participated last year, most of them are doing support this year. Roles got reversed. Do it slow and easy, shall we? Enjoy the food, route, company and sore sensation of muscle groups.
Trying out the LT, hmm .... I would not be expecting the cushion feel like the Cumulus, definitely. But, the shoes seem a little small. I do not expect black toe nails any time soon. But, I would not bring her out for long distances as well.
Bagged an obligated-to-do certification just today. Clearing more obstacles along the way ... Move it!
Bling Bling, Endlesstrail, Albin and I agreed that we should meet up early next due to my schedule. Bling Bling wants to pass us some souvenirs that she bought from her recent Jiu Zhai Gou (九寨沟) trip. Thanks!
It is the time of the year again where my Secondary School classmates want a gathering. Always happy to see them! Let us get some baby pictures!
Thank you to all your Merry Christmas SMS. I would need a harddisk phone to save keep all the SMSes.
Shoe Talk
Saturday, December 23, 2006
After back from KL, I was clearing my stuff and I totally forgot to sync my PDA. Bad move... I totally forgot my appointment today. Not good. After receiving a buzz, I sprang out of bed to boil hot water. For what?! Some works to be done in my toilet and we cannot use the toilet with the hot shower. We have to make do with the other toilet which has cold water. The weather nowadays, simply not a good idea to bathe in cold water. Okay, fast forward a little... I arrived and am totally apologetic. I missed the first set of exercise. We did another exercise before consuming lunch. The Nasi Lemak serving and the packet of chili were really generous. With the effect of digestion setting in, everyone was almost battling to keep their eyelids wide open. Things got better when it was exercises again. Reviews kept us thinking a lot of what we have went through during the whole day. I hope everyone brings back something (knowledge). I did. I know how others perceive me as an individual, for which I hope those are all-out no mercy judgement. Somehow, I feel it is a little reserved. One has to be open about these comments I guess. There is always room for improvement. We wrapped up with discussion and summary before heading out for dinner. Dinner was a little too oily for my taste.
Now, I better not forget the appointment tomorrow or else I will get hanged and my carcass fed to sewer rats, hungry dire wolves or desert vultures...
Long overdue and I have not done this for quite some time.
Accumulated Rainfall
Thursday, December 21, 2006
Back from KL and the journey was torturing due to flooding at highway! Only one lane for uni-direction traffic at certain stretch of the highway. Train services stopped for obvious reasons. News mentioned that there was a 20+ hours of rainfall several days back.
Starting on a new book, The Trail to Titicaca, talking about 3 guys on their mountains bikes traveling several months across Argentina to Lake Titicaca to raise funds for a charitable cause.
Looking ahead.. I think there are a few days left before I learn to dodge swinging flails! Year 2007 for prep. Year 2008 will be high adrenalin for me.
Follow Me, KLCC This Way
Tuesday, December 19, 2006
Waking up around 8.30am, I lazed in bed for at least half an hour. Hotel beds are always better than what I have at home! However, I do recall that my Vietnam colleague was talking in his sleep last night!! Training training training... leaving my KL office at around 7pm, I brought "Ng" to KLCC since it is his first time here in Malaysia. We had A&W for dinner. They do not have these hotdogs back at home anymore! No more Root Beer Floats!
Walking around Kinokuniya, I bought Jan 07's Runner's World since it is slightly cheaper here. Something to reward myself for the new year coming ahead! I spotted the Lonely Planet Story book as well.
Several folks have asked about Rainbow Sago..
Ice shavings topped with sago and yam syrup mix, only to find it surrounded by servings of kiwi fruit, mango, strawberry, honeydew and watermelon. Ultimate dessert!

Late nights simply do not help at all in packing. *Yawn*
With all my stuff in two separate bags, it is time to head out again.
I did a quick purchase at the Beach Road market. Not like I have many shops to choose from since it is considered to be early for shops to be opened. Breakfast? Mee Siam. Between standing around and waiting in the bus, I chose the latter. Several moments later, it seems like a mother and her son sat on two seats to my right (I had a standalone seating in the same row). I offered to change my seat with the lady's husband, which he gladly accepted. I'm alone.. I can sit almost anywhere. Just don't tell me there is a spare seat in the toilet. Not too long before we started to move off, it was a heavy down pour outside! What a day to stay at home, sink really deep in a pile of pillows and read a book with a cup of coffee by your side. Nope... I have to head to KL. Ha! .. I was able to watch Seven Sword (七剑) since I did not manage to finish the show last time. We stopped at the usual location for some food. About an hour after being on the roads again, I felt a bump as though the bus knocked into something or vice versa. It turned out to be that a car had banged the back of our bus. We were stranded for an hour on the highway and later another hour at a small town to settle the accident. The car that knocked into our bus was in a pretty bad shape. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt in this accident. By the time I reached my bus drop off point in KL, it was really late. My Vietnam colleague, "Ng", just arrive via flight too. After checking in, I brought him to Jalan Alor where we can have some local food. I ordered a Maggi Mee Goreng and Teh Tarik. Ah ha! This time, I must try the Rainbow Sago, which I did after our dinner. My Vietnam colleague ordered a Coconut Sago which looks simply refreshing as well. I asked him about his country since I plan to visit Vietnam, which he was happy to share with me.
We continue to talk about places of interest in Vietnam as well walked back to our hotel to shower and change before we call it a night. Just after I came out from shower, the movie "Closer" was showing on HBO. Such coincidence. The theme song of "Closer" was a topic some days back and it showed on T.V. today?! Well, this show makes relationships look so gloomy and complicated. But, it is always something that is on a fine line. Okay, time to face the Z monster.
Sports Retail Therapy
Saturday, December 16, 2006
Past few days have been fruitful and yet taxing on me. Drenched in rain and feeling a little feverish from 8 hours of sub 23 degrees aircon breeze from all directions. Conditions.. .. not good. I had to abandon all ideas on running. Several cases on coming, but there is only so much I can do. To make matter not-so-good, I have to head over to KL for training next week. Things are bound to stack up.
Today, after heading out to change some currencies, I had lunch with a couple of friends and walked around town for some retail therapy. Vouchers, vouchers, vouchers... I need to clear them anyway. No luck. I didn't find anything I fancy that I could use with voucher. My mind kept hovering over the idea of New Balance's RC800/RT800. Nevertheless, I had a great time today!

Stellarium
Simple, sweet, sexy.
Best stars gazing software I have found and used so far. Several people have used, giving thumbs up! What's best? Open source .. meaning ... free. Afterall, I support open source.

myFTOgpx tried to install wireless at his place but failed (unsure). Hence, it was craft (me) to the rescue! Agreeing to settle it faster than a speeding bullet, I deployed myself in a shopping mall near his place, happily munching on MOS Burger's Chilli Dog Meal. A constant rush of happiness filled both my heart and empty stomach. Moving around my usual favorite part of the mall (a.k.a. supermarkets), I shopped for ingredients for the next dessert that I intend to try. Oh.. time flies when you're having fun in supermarkets. ..
At the door, I was greeted with a baby chuckle. Weeee.... myFTOgpx's baby girl! Wireless setup was a piece of cake. The main bulk of time taken was to explain on technologies do-s and don't-s. Play time!! The baby girl was surprisingly friendly to me, as mentioned by myFTOgpx and Sammy. What to do... girl magnet ... (only works for 6months old and below). She was grabbing my finger in her palm and flashing smiles at me all the time. Babies... cutie!! Ooops... forgot my cam!
Rain, Drinks and Stars
Sunday, December 10, 2006
With a extended version of supper at unearthly hours like 2am with Karlooong and Bala, I woke up later than usual. Since Karlooong wants to blade at East Coast, I will do my run there. Bonus - The Sun, the Sand, the Sea.
Uh-oh... not looking good. Dark clouds approached the Fort Road area. 600m into my run, rain fell by the buckets. I had to abandon my run and seek shelter. Needless to say, my Cumulus soaked up water better than Sponge Bob Square Pants. I turned back and went to Marina Square Hong Kong Cafe with Karlooong for Coffee & Tea mix, quick fix. We left the area after our drinks where Karlooong met up with her friends and I went to meet and cousin and his wife. We had a simple dinner where I helped to solve a PC problem. While on my way back, I looked up at the sky .... the stars were dancing!!
Ohh.. I left this out yesterday... over a phone conversation:
Lambie: 'Helooooo'
Me: 'Hey Lamb'
Lambie: 'Convenient to talk?'
Me: 'Oh wait... wait.. do you hear something?'
Lambie: *scratches head* 'Huh? Hear what?'
Me: 'I hear wedding bells ringing....'
Lambie: 'Corny lorrrrr!!!'
22 days left for BITS. Time to go auto.

Took medication and I am feeling better. Thanks for all the SMSes! Now.. this means that .... I will lose out at Dim Sum buffets!! Some items are untouchables! Curses!!
Now, on random thoughts..... isn't the human brain a sophisticated piece of work?! Just a word, a thought.. and viola!
No Pretty

Wedding dinners are usually a source of joy and laughters. Meeting old friends, catching up and reminiscing about the good old times. Guild house, project, SF2... ha. Another classmate starting his journey in marriage life.
Now back at home.. .. I think I've trigger it again! Arrrgg.....
H2O please!!! Flush.. lots.
Switching Plans
Nope.. not going for Pacesetters 30km anymore. Change of plans. I think I'll fight this monster in 2008. Provided that is confirmed as well (depending on Goofy's Challenge).
Over and Out.

Did a short 4km .. warming up my quads and to check on the condition of my legs. So far so good!
Where Are Me Legs?
Wednesday, December 06, 2006
Finally, after days of repetitive stretching of my legs ... endless refills of my water bottle, I can still feel that my quads are attached to my hips. For those who happened to see me walk down the stairs for the pass few days will witness me making faces.
So, guys,..... remember to stretch and drink more water. Phew ... just finished my FR for SCSM06. My legs are itching for the next challenge.
Marathons, Anyone?
Tuesday, December 05, 2006
Just when you think China Beijing's Great Wall of China is a tough marathon to do, check this Ice Marathon out!! They even have an ultramarathon. Psssstt.... look at the price tag.
Race: SCSM 2006
Monday, December 04, 2006
Huh?! What?! Time to wake up?! My beeping alarm clock clearly showed 2.45am. Felt like I just fell asleep. I think I slept for just 2 hours. I wish I could snuggle up in bed but I can't. It is Redemption Day afterall! My wish for the whole of this year is to come back in good condition, crossing the finishing line in style.
Year 2002 Marathon - Came back limping, Year 2003 - Injured, Year 2004 - Work commitment, Year 2005 - Half Marathon.
I got out of bed and was surprised to find Karloong and Bala still up. They were surprised to find me waking up so early for my Marathon breakfast. Nevertheless, they joined me for my breakfast at the coffeeshop since MacDonalds is not serving their breakfast meals before 4am. We chatted while I had my Ba Chor Mee (Mince Meat Noodles), 2 sandwiches and a cup of coffee. Once back at home, I did some light stretching before gearing up. I grabbed all my stuff I packed the night before and walked to the pick up point to meet Charlotte and my ex-colleague, SK, who is coming to drive us to the race. With no expectation of any timing, I brought along my MP3 player, CamelBak, 2 PowerGels, mobile phone, ID and my trusty Canon A410.
Alighting at my ex-company, around the race area, we walked towards the Padang. SK and I queued for restrooms before doing our stretching. Cosmic and Raymond were the only familiar faces I saw before the flag off.
SK and I squeezed through the crowd, making our way nearer to the start point. SK accelerated and I went on my own. I kept reminding myself not to run too fast at early stages of this race. I ran too fast, too early in many long distance races, resulting in a struggling-to-finish condition. Around the Lau Pa Sat area, I said "Hi" to Cokiee. I hope that his ankle will be okay. Right at the turning point to join the highway, IMD took a picture of me and sped off. "Don't let me catch you slacking!!", said IMD. Ha!! I am suppose to enjoy this Marathon! Taking sips from my Camelbak, I avoided water points for the first 12km. I waved to TeeLee, OP and Babumouse around the Marina South Ferry Terminal. These guys are fast! Doraemon_Red too!! On the return leg of the Marina South, I saw Sassyrunner and Sumiko who were already racing hard in their 21km category. I waved to Renohtaram too, who did his 21km as well. I tried to spot familiar faces along the way out of Marina South but failed to find any more. I stopped and stretched around the 12km area. My plan... to stretch at intervals.. and I will stick to it. Hey! The sky is getting brighter... time to bring out my camera. I took shots along the way. Occasionally, I hear giggles from runners who ran behind me. Must be my Adidas "Reason To Run" BIB. Back at the Fullerton side of Esplanade, I could see runners queuing up for their 10km flag off. Just after the Esplanade, I caught up with SK and we ran together on our way to Fort Road. I was happy to see the 21km marking near Fort Road. Half way mark! I waved to Commando as I ran pass him and was surprised to see Siong beside me too! I could see dads, mums, children, spouses cheering for their love ones with their hand made banners. A touching scene indeed.
Once into the East Coast Park sretch, it was not that long before we were greeted with PowerGels distribution and an All-kids cheering team! Cute! Further down, we were all on the other side of the 30km mark support table. I tried to wave to the guys. But, I was not able to catch their attention. However, I did see Rooonz, JamesSoh and KickJazz. I was high in spirits when they waved back! Come on! We're still going on strong! I started to load a pack of chocolate flavored PowerGel around 24km, flushing it down with plain water. Fast runners like Sam, DO, IMd and Ultraman were spotted on the return leg while I continued my loop towards the East Coast Hawker Centre. When I turned back after looping the lagoon, I caught sight of Cheow, SuperBoy and LTChua. Thumbs up!! Let's go!! Within some 1km down the road, Brokie caught up with me and said "Hi" before speeding off. It was around this point where I saw Ronnie down with cramps as well. Since someone was attending to him, I went ahead.
Around 28km of the route, I caught up with Choonwei who was doing pacing for 4 hours 30 mins group and I ran with him up to 30km mark. I saw Eunice at the other side of the road as I waved out to her. We passed Aichai on the other side of the route, while he led the 5 hour pace group. At the 30km support table, the supporters (namely AlecChua, Rooonz, FD, KickJazz, JamesSoh, Tekko, ACLeong's son and Shut's gf) were really energetic and helpful in providing assistance to us, getting our personal stuff and providing sponges for cool downs. Happy to see all my friends at the support table!! I continued my journey with my head up high! I passed the All-kids cheering team, a band and a pom pom girls cheering team before I left for Fort Road. I discovered that my pace dropped a little around the 33km mark. Cfred cheered "JiaYou!" as he ran pass me. Dasher overtook me at the 35km mark as well. As I turned into the National Stadium area, I saw Ronnie walking in an uncomfortable posture. I believe that he was in cramps again. I cheered Ronnie to carry on as I ran past. Babumouse spotted ahead!! He seemed to be suffering from cramps as he stopped and dropped to the ground. I ran forward to help him stretch his calf muscle before professional help came to take over. Babumouse asked me to carry on. I pressed on in my own journey. Soon, I came across a fellow Indian runner who seems to be struggling between walks and runs. I greeted him and promised him a finisher medal ... erm. ... well.. he paid for the medal anyway! At 37km mark, I spotted another band keeping our morale high with their drumming. I took a picture of them and one of the members saluted to me, signifying a thank-you. I returned the favor! At this point, can I say I hit the wall? A rush of emotions suddenly swept towards me. I recalled the moments of time spent with my maternal grand-mother. I wish I could tell her, "This is for you!", and I am proud to be your grand-son. I got hold of my thoughts and emotions and told myself, "Let's finish this!".
Just after the 38km, Fennel was spotted. Encouraging her that we are within the 4 hours 30 mins range, she steadily paced herself towards the finishing line. I greeted a relaxed looking Alvo at the 39km. We exchanged a few words before he went ahead. I continued my pace to 40km mark where I met 2 Caucasian ladies cheering and encouraging marathoners to push on. They were so spontaneous to pose when I took my camera out! Ha! By this time, I bumped into Vege, my NS mate, and we ran the last stretch together till Esplanade where he asked me to go ahead. "Bala!!", I heard Charlotte calling out to me. Bee and YeeHua were next seen along the way, shouting "Bala! Wa... Camera some more!". Haahha. All thanks to strangers who were cheering for us at the Esplanade to the Finishing Line stretch. I did a thumbs up and waving all the way as a token of appreciation. I took a few quick snaps before cross the line.....
My wish came true. Happy that I completed the race in one piece. No limping. Not like the Year 2002.
Completed! Chip Time Approx. 4hrs 26min. Surprise! Many thanks to the supporters at the 30km mark table! You made this race possible for me and many others runners as well. Knowing so many running friends for this past one year has been the greatest thing that has happened.
After the race, I collect my finisher medal and Tee before replenishing my lost fluids with 100plus. I met up with the rest of my running friends for a couple of pictures. Penguin paced DreamerGal to finish her 10km! Good job! EndlessTrail and Donkey completed their 10km as well!! Fantastic!!
Case of Race Jitters

Darn....
Race jitters.... crept all over me.
Been trying to sleep since 7pm. I was just flipping left and right like a Gyoza dipping in soya sauce. TMD.

Can't sleep ... sign up for wireless then!!
Song: All ABout Loving You
Title: All About Loving You
Artist: Bon Jovi
Looking at the pages of my life
Faded memories of me and you
Mistakes you know I've made a few
I took some shots and fell from time to time
Baby, you were there to pull me through
We've been around the block a time or two
I'm gonna lay it on the line
Ask me how we've come this far
The answer's written in my eyes
[Chorus:]
Every time I look at you, baby, I see something new
That takes me higher than before and makes me want you more
I don't wanna sleep tonight, dreamin's just a waste of time
When I look at what my life's been comin' to
I'm all about lovin' you
I've lived, I've loved, I've lost, I've paid some dues, baby
We've been to hell and back again
Through it all you're always my best friend
For all the words I didn't say and all the things I didn't do
Tonight I'm gonna find a way
[Chorus:]
Every time I look at you, baby, I see something new
That takes me higher than before and makes me want you more
I don't wanna sleep tonight, dreamin's just a waste of time
When I look at what my life's been comin' to
I'm all about lovin' you
You can take this world away
You're everything I am
Just read the lines upon my face
I'm all about lovin' you
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus:]
Every time I look at you, baby, I see something new
That takes me higher than before and makes me want you more
I don't wanna sleep tonight, dreamin's just a waste of time
When I look at what my life's been comin' to
I'm all about lovin' you
All about lovin' you

CBD Biggest Turnout
Tuesday, November 28, 2006
I believe this is the biggest turn out ever. With Trifam people who are leading the marathon pace for different level were present today too. We did a short 9.6km and back to the start point. Nothing new. Everyone to stay alert and should be away from any injury at all.
Roentgen passed me my HWA goodie pack. Thanks! Personalised Thank You card!! Wow.. Thanks to all those who have made this possible in anyway. Any help in any way at all! Many thanks.
Excited about this upcoming marathon already.

My mobile phone could not charge and had no response when I tried to switch it off and on again. *gasp*
Could it be? End of its life?! Proceeded to do mobile phone C.P.R.....
Switch off, Dismantle all, Assemble back, Switch On. Yay!! One life saved!! Seems like I need to buy a new phone.... soon. Scary.
Childbirth

Waking up at 4am to find that my mobile phone not charging.... not good. Luckily, I rectified that and was able to give it some juice before I left home around 7am plus. Darn... I was late this morning for the beep test. Mysterious as it seems, I have been having nightmares (in a way or another) for the past few nights and it contributed to my loss of quality sleep. Anyway, with the necessary stuff for the beep test in place, we did a warm up (familiarization) and followed by an actual test. Simple as ABC. But, it progressively became tougher. To the point of fatigue, my estimated VO2max is 50.5. According to Philip, at my age, this reading is sipeh tok-gong. Now... am I projecting the image that I might be older than I am? Back to the test. .... Others like Googoogaga, Sotong and TLR did pretty well for VO2max score too! Philip proceeded to do a de-brief on the test and some tips on this up coming event. Since Sotong felt that his ITB is a little tight, Philip gave him a deep muscle massage on his ITB. Sotong screamed like he was in labour pains and I took it down in video. LOL! I decided to give Philip a go to massage my ITB and it was my turn to wince in pain. After the session, I did feel that my ITB is stretched. Nice! *Ouch*
Four of us went off for brunch before two made their way to Great World City for Happy Feet Movie. Since we were early, we chilled out at Mac. Another huge turnout. I think Happy Feet is like a musical animation movie, something along that line.
I created this. Sort of like a sneak preview of what's to come. I have yet to create yesterday's entry on cute Rachael as well. I need to scan the card.

I tried out the foot analysis today at Vivocity Adidas store. It was fun! Feeling silly on why I could never get my left foot to strike properly on the pad. I always land on my right. Now.. interesting stuff. As the Blue - Green - Yellow - Red print suggests I have swapped from a heel to fore / mid foot strike type. Wicked! The staff doing the analysis are friendly and knowledgeable. I am labeled as "efficient and elite" type as there are only 20% of runners who are mid foot type. Elite sounds totally cool but I am no where near there. Efficient? I have no idea.
Now several of us went for lunch before I looked at DS lite. Heh heh heh... I found the DS Browser as well. As we shopped around, we bumped into Skyver with his gal.
Set!!... 30km! But, I was stopped by a passing shower. Well, more than a passing shower actually.

James Bond 007 movie is out. Guess this is one show I can bring my old man to watch.

I punished my legs for a good 30km just now. Not the capital punishment yet... Stopping along the way for plenty of stretches.
Conan just MSN-ed me ...
"Are you nuts? We're having route march tomorrow..."
Perfect.....
A few of the other folks said ...
"juz a recovery walk for u lah"
"heheh..it's what they call 'recovery'"
Ya ... my limping foot... Can I report sick?!

Since my bad day started from yesterday, I was not spared from today as well. Can't sleep and the lack of it contributed to the DNF today. I could only managed a 6km before I felt nauseous.
Back to work.
Everyone Stretched
Friday, November 10, 2006
Since no one knows the set up better, I have to settle it before I turn to Men-In-Green.
Definitely not feeling good, having to stay and set up since tonight I am suppose to celebrate YMother's birthday. They will have to go for the dinner first and I'll join in the cake cutting as soon as I'm done.
Nightmare.. I think I'm going to camp here tonight. Blast this. 15hrs of work?
Renohtaram!! Are you in office too?! .....
Mess .. A Mess
Wednesday, November 08, 2006
Ha.. I think I heard a "I need your help" from 5 different person today.
What's best? I forgot my keys and I left them in the office. I gasped in horror, standing at the door, outside my house. I dragged my feet with a lousy heavy notebook all the way back to the office to retrieve my house keys. Not a choice that I would have when no one is home. Everyone went shopping. By the time I reached home to change, I was really really.. .. late for SP Tracks. Cheow12 and Tiwazz were kind enough to wait for me to finish my 8 sets. I am suppose to do 9 sets today. I guess all the food in Bidor (adding 2kg to my waistline) did not help me in my mental state of "I-need-to-do-9-laps-today".

Back From Bidor
Monday, November 06, 2006
Just back from Bidor Half Marathon and we missed the SBS bus at Bukit Timah Road. IMD and I were toying with the idea of waiting longer which we ended up misleading a foreign worker thinking that there will be buses coming. It was flagging down of a cab in the end, at around 1am.
It has been a great trip! Thanks for the company - Yi Hua, Yen Erl, IMD, SV, Shut and Ronnie!
Wow!!! Dean has completed his 50 Marathons, 50 states, 50 days ... all done (with NYC Marathon as the last marathon). *Salutes*
Race: Bidor Half Marathon
Sunday, November 05, 2006
At 5.30am, my phone's alarm rang. I guess I was enjoying my sleep. Shut exclaimed, "AAAggggg.... I don't feel like running! How?". Let's slack! Stay in bed then!! Noooo!! I got out of bed and washed up before changing. I ate a Muesli bar and wore my shoes. When Shut and Ronnie were ready, we went down to gather with the rest. Ahh!! Stars over head! Nice!! I spent a minute to look around the sky before warming up.
Loud stereo speakers boomed the area with the Emcee and fast paced music rocking the quiet sleepy neighborhood on a lazy Sunday. We were ushered into a compound and then re-routed to the start line with only the half marathon participants first. Greeting each other with "good-lucks", we sped off after the flag dropped at 7am. I was suppose to pace Shut at a 2hr 30mins for 21km pace. But, I guess I just continued at a constant speed (wasn't exactly going at race speed). I can't remember I overtook SV at which point. But, he was not too far behind. At most of the time, I could see Ronnie in front of me. IMD is way too fast. I enjoyed running through old Kampong style houses, palm and rubber plantations. Running beside cemeteries was less frightening at broad daylights. The air is cool but had a strong dose of chicken farms smell. Sure woke everyone up with that!! We ran across the highway (4 times - to and fro) too. Once I calculated mentally that a sub-2hour is possible, I gave it a shot at my last 3km. I crossed the finishing line feeling good. My first 21km Personal Best - 1hr 56mins. Soon, the rest came in one by one. Yen Erl did a great job too! She had a good race though she shrieked at the slopes, "Ayeeeeee!!!"
Cold Red Bull and Vico was really a power up for me! Watermelon never tasted that good as well. We stayed around to capture a priceless shot of IMD receiving his 15th place in Men's Open category. Since none of us won anything for the lucky draw, we went back to the hotel to shower and change. We had some simple food for lunch before heading back to KL. Shut, SV, Ronnie and I hanged out around Bejaya TimesSquare. I read and finished off the "5 Love Languages" book at Starbucks, totally sunken into reviewing what I had went through many years back. I was not speaking the Primary Love language of "Quality Time". It was 6pm before we boarded our home bound bus back!
Race Prep: Bidor Half Marathon
Saturday, November 04, 2006
Yet another early day for me to get out of bed because we are going to race in Bidor, Malaysia - Bidor Half Marathon! Meeting at Kranji MRT around 6.30am, I was the earliest. I should have taken a bus instead. By the time Ronnie, Shut and SV arrived, we got on Bus 170 and crossed the immigrations on both sides swiftly. Since Senai Airport is not too far away, sharing a cab was quite a deal and we only got into a slight jam which is just outside the airport. A quick check-in and we were off to some breakfast at CoffeeBean and TeaLeaf. It was not too long that we got on the plane and reached KL before we can catch some sleep. Budget flights... did not expect too much. Within minutes, IMD and Yee Hua were at the lobby. We loaded our packs into the car and went to Cheras to look for Yen Erl.
Catching a quick lunch, we continued our journey up to Bidor where it was raining along the way, with IMD behind the steering wheel. He was practically transporting a car load of zombies.. all of us fell asleep. Oooops. Upon arriving at Bidor, we asked for directions to the race pack pick up point. Once we parked our car, it poured from the sky again!! We decided to have some hot drinks before driving over to our hotel. The friendly, chatty coffee shop owner even showed us his travel pictures!! Now that made us look like country bumpkins!!! He has been to so many countries!!
Since the rain stopped, we went to the official race hotel and were greeted by a "See Foo Hotel" which translates to "Master (KungFu) Hotel". But, it actually meant West Lake Hotel. *slaps forehead real loud* Ouch. There were signs pointing to a small door leading to a flight of stairs which certainly did not suggest any "star" to the hotel. Heck! Simple beds and bathing facilities are all we need! We went out to take some pictures at the start line and did some walking around the small town of Bidor. It was raining on and off, every now and then. We ended up eating Ramly Burgers, Goreng Pisangs, Curry Puffs and Duck Drumstick Noodles. Yum!!
Since there weren't any cable T.V. programs or Internet access, I read "The 5 Love Languages" till I fell asleep at 8pm. First time sleeping at such an early time!
My Fav Add-On
Friday, November 03, 2006
My fav Add-on, ChinesePera-kun is supported on Firefox 2!! Yay..... Macfox... not yet.
Due to work this week, I have abandoned quite a few stuff that I should be tackling. However, I got "The Five Love Languages" book (loan). Yay!!! Why is everyone asking me if I'm dating again when they saw me reading that book? Does it mean that when one is married, he or she no longer needs to read on relationship books anymore? Are you an expert by then?

Brain freeze, brain dead!
Finally, 95% done! I'm not sure why the 5% left isn't working. I just know.. I need my sleep. Another long day tomorrow and a wedding dinner (many have been waiting for) at night.
I do not have time to spare for running due to this week's hectic schedule! Man-In-Green soon.... more time lost.
Now.... for a few hours on that 42km ... even 5 minutes seem like a lifetime.

Why is there an unopened pack of Milo on the shelf?! Why is it not cold?! Chilled ... that's the way!
A glass of Ice Milo after a long run is more than just a rewarding treat! Heavenly!
Hmm.. .. yesterday noon, I had lunch with my cousins and their wives. My cousin and his wife-to-be (actually) are having a discussion with us on the wedding day's arrangement. Help out, roles assignments and stuff. Guess who was begging for attention?

Break A Leg!
Wednesday, October 25, 2006
Wahh..... I heard that you'll get Crystal Jade food if you sprain your ankle.
Haa... Break a leg? Get Sashimi delivered to your place?! haa... maybe.
I did try to run... only for a kilometer when it was drizzling.... I saw lightning... I had to stop. That was before Sotong reached the tracks.
But, all it took was a downpour... we changed our plans from tracks to four plates of spicy food. Sambal KangKong, Chilli Sotong, Otah and Sambal Stingray.
Owww.... my right foot hurt a little now. I was trying to break the fall of a coffee glass at a coffeeshop while we were having dinner. The lady cleaner accidentally swept the glass off the table and I tried to prevent it from smashing it on the floor. It did smash eventually, even with my foot cushioning the forces of gravity.

Touch down! Happy that I had a great trip in Cambodia. Sad that I am back in reality again. Nah!! Plan for another trip is the only next logical thing to do.
Soon... .. busy sorting pictures and writing FRs. Overall, it has been a fantastic trip. Seeing a lot of things, the good, bad and ugly... More to that in FRs.
Oh!! I missed the Wedding Run at Lower Peirce! Congrats Alvo & Meteor. Luv you guys!! Missing out runs and swims. No, I don't miss the haze at all. Definitely, wishing that it would go away sooner!
Meanwhile, some pictures to keep you wanting for more!
Cambodia Holiday: Day 3
Saturday, October 21, 2006
Early morning, we needed to get ready, taking our breakfast waiting for our bus pickup to send us to the Mekong Express Limousine Bus: Phnom Penh - Siem Reap bus boarding location. Seems like the bus will be stopping over at Kampong Thom, which was one of our original plans to stay there for a day. This time, we will be just doing a pit stop. Limousine bus is quite alright and comparable to KL buses. Locals and tourists alike boarded the bus and we moved off at 8.30am. Within 10mins, we crossed the Tonle Sap River using the Japanese bridge. Wow .. we were distributed with pastries on board the bus! Limousine service? Well, the not so limousine service would be showing Cambodia MTV which most people have no clue of what the singers are singing. Nevertheless, definitely a very local flavor and reminds me of the 80's Karaoke MTVs. Damn old school.
Lots of kampong lookalike houses along the way of our travel. Eventually, we arrived at Kampong Thom for pit stop (toilet break, lunch) for half an hour. Endlesstrail could not resist the temptation to try the fried crickets the "Fear Factor" way - chew well + swallow. "Taste like sotong", commented Endlesstrail. Yes, I was behind the camera taking it all down in video. Fear of crickets is definitely not a factor for him. The road side store sells fried bats and rats (I think, based on the shape) too. Definitely more fear in stinking one's teeth into the bats or rats. I still prefer good old fried chicken.
By mid-noon, we finally reached the bus depot at Siem Reap. Mr. John Teng was already there waiting for us. Before we can get off the bus, there was already a horde of moto-taxi drivers shouting and waving just to catch our attention. Most were carrying pictures and rates of guest houses nearby. For once, I felt like a cow or some livestock with people shouting out, at, over and across me. You just have to firmly say no. Mr. John Teng brought us to his car (parked behind the depot) where he helped us move around to book our guest house. A nice and friendly person! Once we sorted our accommodation, we went straight to Angkor area to make our 3-day pass costing us USD$40. We had our photos taken (passport size), printed and laminated the pass on the spot. Of course, USD$40 is not cheap! I would say it is worth the money to see the temples in the Angkor site. Since it was nearing to sunset, we visited Angkor Wat to capture a reflection of the temple before climbing the steep stairs to reach the top.
Cambodia Holiday: Day 2
Friday, October 20, 2006
After a night of rain, I think I gained enough sleep through therapeutic sound of rain drops hitting on roof top. It sort of cooled down the temperature since it was really warm during the day. Since we did not require Mr. Ben Wee's service after the first day, we were on our own moving around. His service has been great. But, we felt that we wanted to move around on our own. After a discussion, we settled for bus as our transport to Siem Reap on the third day. Mr. Ben Wee was kind enough to pass us Mr. John Teng's contact for us, in Siem Reap. To get ready for our second day out, we had a hearty breakfast in continental style - Banana pan cakes, toast, coffee and orange juice. Russian Market was our first destination for the day. After a bargain with the motor-taxi, we hopped on the vehicle and reached our destination within 10-15mins. It would not even qualify for a long ride. Walking the entire Russian Market, I found that it is rather small. It is the stores and things I see that interest me. A parking place for motorbikes and bicycles?! Ha... A parking attendant will issue the bike owner a ticket for him to collect his vehicle later. We navigated around the area, exploring wet markets around the area. Just like the 80's, back at home.

It was around lunch time, that we thought of resting our legs. We were not exactly hungry (after the heavy breakfast) and merely wanted a place to sit down with drinks. Stopping at Jars Of Clay, we ordered some drinks and pastries while relaxing. Endlesstrail and I bought a journal each .. .maybe we can use it for the next trip. We did more walking before leaving the area. Hmm.... rolled cigarettes on sale? Weed cigarettes?
Next stop - Central Market. We went there on foot. Since the shopping mall where we got our dri-fits is nearby, the thought of having a simple late lunch comes to mind. Now, Central Market is really huge. The cement, solid looking structure has lots of shops in it, mostly selling "near genuine" clothes, watches and sorts. Surrounding the market, more stores (mainly made of wooden planks) selling food, fashion and "near genuine" ever famous reprinted Lonely Planet books. We came across a store with BBQ-ed giant squids. A small setup selling insects was spotted as well. We could hardly finish viewing all the stores before it was near to their closing time for the day. Just a stone throw away from our guest house, we walked back to deposit our purchases of today before picking a place for dinner.

Our resting place for our legs today ... Friends Restaurant
This restaurant helps the society in getting kids off the streets by teaching them culinary skills. Ordering a virgin Pina Colada to go with the sandwich, I slumped back into my chair while doing a recap of what we have seen for the past two days. Just beside the restaurant, they have a small little shop that sells handicrafts made by them too! Some very innovative and nice ornaments that they have. There were second hand books on sale as well. I bought a couple of coin purses as gifts. Back in the guest house, the cable T.V. was showing Soul Plane. Bloody hilarious! Snoop Dogg in the show?! What can you expect?!
Lights out ... we have a morning bus to catch ... to be on our way to Siem Reap.
Cambodia Holiday: Day 1
Thursday, October 19, 2006
Barely 4 hours of sleep, I sprang out of bed because for the next five days, it will be really exciting!
At the airport, EndlessTrail was already there. We checked in the JetStar Asia with Donkey. Hmm... time was running short and it certainly did not help with a hanging PC!! A budget airline with its boarding pass just like a piece of receipt. Just interesting and not complaining. Donkey requested for a near exit seats with more leg room. Great!! We got the last row of the plane where we could not even recline our seats. Well done. Heck! I still went ahead to sleep anyway!
Going through immigration was a breeze. Mr. Ben Wee (our guide) was already waiting for us at the airport, just outside arrival hall, upon our arrival at Phnom Penh Airport. All of us hopped onto his car and started making our way to the guesthouse. After a quick check-in (dumping our packs in our rooms), we took a quick bite at the restaurant below. I had Chicken Noodle Soup. Since Mr. Ben Wee had to send someone off to airport, we took a Motorcycle Taxi to visit the Royal Palace which is along and in front of the Tonle Sap River. Walking around the Royal Palace, I was figuring out why a French looking building is inside the premises. The French influence, a common mix in most places in Cambodia (during the French rule). Looking around for the Silver Pagoda, I pointed out to EndlessTrail that the flooring is made of silver tiles. All of a sudden, we went, "Ahhhhh....". There were some paintings all the way down the hallway on walls. After some walking here and there, someone came over and said, "No go. Close." Oh??! They have opening time from 8-11am and 2-5pm. Lunch break for the guards? Part of the Royal Palace is out of bounds to public. Hence, we left the compound and waiting outside where we saw Mr. Ben Wee who is already waiting for us across the street. Donkey saw a little girl selling "Lonely Planet: Cambodia" and asked for the price. "USD$18". Wow..... She slashed down to USD$8 when we boarded the car.
Next ... we stopped for a few minutes at the Independence Monument before driving to the next place to visit. The start of a sad but educational journey for the rest of the day. Arriving at the Tuol Sleng Museum a.k.a. Genocide Museum, my mood dipped lower as my heart sank. Tuol Sleng was a Tuol Svay Prey High School. In 1975, it was taken over by Pol Pot's security forces(Khmer Rouge) and was turned into a prison known as Security 21 (S-21). S-21 was Angkar's place for interrogating end exterminating anti-Angkar elements. 'Angkar' meant 'The Organization'. A lot more details and facts can be found by searching online about Khmer Rouge and its atrocities.
Walking around the few blocks (each block around 3-4 storeys high) of classrooms, I refused to take pictures in some of them because I think it is really depressing. One of the blocks had classrooms as interrogation rooms. Tools to immobilize prisoners and pictures of victims could be seen in the classrooms. No words can describe the feeling when you see the pictures. You just have to see it yourself. Another block containing mug shots of prisoners and victims where some of them are being photographed even with a bruised eye (obviously beaten up). A guide was explaining to a group of tourists when I was there and he was battling to keep the tears from falling. Fitness corners in the school were not spared and used as sadistic intruments to torture prisoners. The next block of classrooms has concertina and barbed wires covering all levels. This was used to prevent prisoners from killing themselves by jumping off the building to commit suicide. This block of classrooms were divided into concrete and wooden cells for individual on different levels. The last level is classrooms that held prisoners together. Another block of classrooms had display of photographs and articles that made the impression deeper. We walked in silence on our way back to the car. Again, no words can describe that helpless feeling. Not for the weak or faint hearted. It is really depressing to see brutal acts like these, especially on your own people.
Lunch (kinda lost appetite) was with a slow start, after what we saw. But still ... we had to eat something. Killing fields (another heart wrenching site) is next and will be some distance away without any restaurant around the area.
Afterall, who can actually eat?!
To the Killing Fields, it was a short drive on some dirt track. We came to the site that was once a longan orchard. Some of the structures that held the victims and storage to hold tools of torture are long gone. One can easily conjure the image in his mind. The screams and cries of those held here, awaiting for death.
Imagine. Between 1975 to 1978, 17,000 people (men, women, children and infants, including nine Westerners) were detained and tortured at S-21 before taken to extermination camp here, at the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek.
Walking around the site, we saw dug up graves that are now pits and some covered with rain water. Signs from some remains suggest that they were bounded and blindfolded when they were killed. There is also a tree for the executioners to swing the babies at. How dark can humans be?
A Memorial Stupa has been erected in 1988, housing more than 8000 skulls. We left with a heavy heart. Glad to see that all these are over for the Cambodians. Yet what they have been through will never be forgotten.
Moving back to the central area again, we went to see Wat Phnom, which happens to be near our guesthouse. According to legend, Wat Phnom is rumoured to have given its name to this city(Phnom Penh, today) when it was discovered by a woman named Penh. Wat Phnom is rather small and we covered the place quicker than we thought. Donkey requested to Mr. Ben Wee that we need to go to a supermarket. He drove us to a shopping mall because he probably thought that we wanted to shop. Apart from looking like our People's Park Center, the shopping mall did have a gem in some corner afterall!! We bought dri-fit tees for my cycling and some to distribute. It was getting dark and Mr. Ben Wee recommended a local restaurant that serves relatively good food. Angkor Beer, their local branding, is rather light. Dinner was okay and I ordered glutinous rice with durian for dessert. How about that?! So much for the first day, we went back to our rooms in the guesthouse to shower and sleep. What?!! You mean we have cable T.V.?!

Fishy Theories
Sunday, October 15, 2006
SuperBoy, Rooonz and I dropped by at AlecChua's place for lunch. We bought him Carrot Cake - Black version (breakfast) and Duck Rice (lunch). We got his pet fish its lunch as well. Ermm.. ... goldfish for lunch. We chatted about the NIE Director's Relay over lunch (not goldfish). SuperBoy helped to feed his pet with goldfish and all of a sudden there was this dicussion with SuperBoy and Rooonz on:
Rooonz:
1) Goldfish has no feeling of pain because they have no central nervous system
2) Goldfish has short memory of just 2secs
SuperBoy:
1) Goldfish being good, dying from a quick death from AlecChua's pet fish - quick death being no sinking of teeth into goldfish's body and with one quick swallow into the tummy, allowing digestive acids to work on its victim.
How morbid.
We got AlecChua his dinner before leaving. While I was getting a drink at the convenience store, SuperBoy pointed out to me that ickleOriental and her Hubba walked pass. Haa... the three of us walked to Holland V for drinks before calling it a day.
Still hazy over here, while its a cold day for Sotong in Paris.
Race: NIE Director's Relay
Saturday, October 14, 2006
Dropping my stuff at work, I went home to pack my items for the night. The NTU - NIE Director's Relay tonight for a 12 hour relay race, starts at 9pm. Form a team of 6 for competitive, team of 10 for fun run. With 12 hours, run as many laps as your team can do. Each lap around is 2.4km. No runner is suppose to do two consecutive rounds.
I met up Sotong, Cheow12 and Tiwazz at Jurong Point for some carbo loading session. My dinner was a little disappointing (no, I shall not take any pics of it).
IMD and SV did meet us at NIE and we secured a spot for us to dump our bags. After some briefing, the flag off took place at 9pm sharp and everyone sprinted! Since I was the second runner, I waited for IMD to come in through the Start/Stop line. The first runner who came in was 7mins ++. Fast. Nuclear powered legs, probably. Since IMD will need to leave at midnight, we inserted him after every other runner. At a later stage, we adjusted to after two runners. IMD was really consistent with his timing. Violet came all the way as pom-pom girl to support Cheow12. IMD SMS-ed us in the morning around 5am to check on our slack progress. I tried to keep with a 10min 30secs pace for 2.4km but failed to do so around 5th lap. Fatigue came creeping in around 3am in the morning and at 5am, it was the worst! Around my 7th round, I was really sleepy. As I ran along and over took a lady, I thought she looked pretty strong. That is good. But, about several more steps along the road, I hear a loud thud of someone who fell. It was the same lady I over took. I think it must have been the fatigue that she tripped over something. I ran back to check if she was okay. She signaled a thumbs up and asked me to carry on. I smiled and continued. Sore muscles and a really sleepy Balasing. I better concentrate on my footing. I changed to a new set of running vest and shorts around 8th lap ... wow!! I felt so much better!! I guess it did help me on my morale and I ran slightly faster. But... I did eventually cross over to 13min ++ and 14min ++ as well. No injury is the main thing for me. At my last lap, Renohtaram called me on my phone and I told him we were still at NIE. Sumiko saw me talking on my mobile phone while running and she teased me, "Waaaa... can talk on mobile phone while running??!!!". Oooops.. I'm slacking! We were really happy to complete 60 laps as a team even though we were not podium material. Runners with "A" tags were the individual runners with no team members for relay. They just kept running throughout the night. You guys deserve rounds of applause from everyone!! Personally, I salute you.
A tired body... but the company, food and race made it all worth while!
I slept for a few hours and went out for dinner with my family. We had steamboat. Let me rest for now. The haze seems to be back at 116 for PSI.
Team Ching Tng
Wednesday, October 11, 2006
Great lunch that I had today. Stuffed Kulcha, Butter Naan, Garlic Naan, Masala Mushroom, Palak Paneer and more!! I was a little disappointed with the Masala Tea. It did not taste like what I expected it to be. A little bland on the spices flavor. No cam, no pics.
Tiring run today!! I realised how unfit I am. Sustaining can be quite something. Practically panting for haze flavored air, I just ran and ran.
Thank the heavens for an "acceptable" PSI level these few days. On several occasion, it seemed like "ray of light" on areas where light from road lamps could reach.
Today, everyone seems to power up with 2 bowls of desserts each. Ha.. we even had someone to do a cover page shot promoting auntie's Ching Tng. Simple discussion over the dinner table on the NIE race time table and assignments.
I bumped into SuSu and OCS on my way back.
Looks like I will miss the Ramly Burger, lights and some dice action.

GEORGE LEONG

Eat, Laugh, Pose, Sleep(Probably Run)

After the swim, a few of us kept talking about the upcoming NIE Director's Relay 2006 event. Going through our strategy to last us through the night, laughing.. having fun, rather than competing. Exciting! I will come up with a SOP list. Definitely some comfort items to keep us motivated through the night. Each of us will have to do approximately 10 rounds of 2.4km each. We will do it like the old coolie days. One bag of rice (one lap) will reward you with one ice cream stick. No slacking cos we will know who is.
Coffee is a must. Tidbits too. Radio is a plus. My trusty MP3 player is coming along too. Mosquito coils are a definite. Heck, I'll bring the whole department store there.
I'll probably bring my inflatable bed. Yes, I'll hang up a "Do not disturb, no room service required." sign.
Lazy Sunday
Sunday, October 08, 2006
The morning was cleared from the haze that stayed around like a plague for the past 3 days. Last night, 9am having the worst reading so far. I hope it stays this way, clear skies. I spent my afternoon having tea and listening to the radio. I did pack some stuff around the house and prep my new tea pots. Sadly, I found a few cracked old cups. I think I need to find a new storage place.
Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2 is showing on T.V. tonight. Come to think of it, I did not watch this. Not even Lara Croft Tomb Raider 1. It must have been one of those Uni days movies. Greece (Santorini - one of my dream locations) for a start and I read that it featured Angkor Wat for Part 1 as well.
Short morning distance and another few more kms later. Lazy indeed.
Drumsticks Of The Gathering

Stage 1! Wah! I finally cleaned my BlackSteed from its layer of dust.
Stage 2! GreyHound set for cleaning tomorrow!
I wanted to buy myself a good dinner (I missed that while I was overseas). Still thinking of which spot to go, I received an SMS from my Sec School friends about a gathering for dinner. Happy! I missed quite a few dinner and new-born celebrations since I have been out of town this year for a few times. Simple stuff. Home cook food. Babies gurgling. I teased those 2 sweeties as they tried to learn to flip onto their tummies, while on their backs. All eyes on me. "When is your turn coming?"
Now, the world is getting smaller. My Sec School classmate who know ZhuiTeLun as they are currently colleagues now. We are all school mates, with ZhuiTeLun, a level higher as our senior. ZhuiTeLun's brother which is my platoon mate, our level during Sec School days. The world seems like 1 km square now.
19 Down, 31 To Go

Dean Karnazes on his Endurance 50 Run. Impressive stuff.
Well, I have 4 down, 1 to go. Sometimes, time will show if it is working for or against you.
Still hazy as shit. No runs. Let us accumulate some sins from the good food and burn some fats on Sunday.
Cambodia Game Plan
Thursday, October 05, 2006
We called for a meeting with EndlessTrail and Donkey for a short discussion on our Cambodia trip. Since Donkey came later, we order our BK dinner first. Ah ha!! Coupons. EndlessTrail says we are not a couple and cannot use the couple set meal. (=_=)"
BlingBling .. bitchslaps, please?!
Several stuff for each of us to check on. Getting excited and looking forward already. On my way to the trains, the haze looks pretty bad (worst, so far). I had to drop the plan to run. I met Ripley, who happened to be browsing the bookstore and had a brief chat before I boarded the train while chatting with Beng over the mobile.

......
The pile is left rotting and now being bounced back to my lap? So... the follow up emails are for? Funny.
Run has been good today! Tiring! At least I achieved what I wanted. Dinner was rewarding to the body and soul. Yummy.
Miss CBD
Tuesday, October 03, 2006
I mean I miss the CBD run. After slacking for 2 weeks, I was kind of afraid that I am slowing most people if I come back later than the rest. I did come back earlier than most. But, that was because almost everyone did extra loops!! Ha! The Tees from New Balance are really nice and I prefer the red. The orange is equally cool looking. Since myFTOgpx wanted to pick up the Xbox from me, I left with an empty stomach. I did manage to catch a short drink with Cfred at the nearby 7-11.
Soon, it will be Cambodia. No mileage again. I hope next year's Peru: Machu Picchu (Inca Trail) would materialise. I need Vit-M. Lots.
I Want That Prada Prata
Monday, October 02, 2006
I had an interesting short MSN conversation with a friend today. Ha.... everything seemed so familiar. No one would know, unless one walks the path.
36 is the new magic number (would kill for 30).
*Pooof*
That was after rounds and rounds of constant reminder, trying to drill that into my head. Loneshark happened to be at the pool doing a refresher and he joined us for dinner and drinks. Snoopy sneaked home early with packed tang yuan. *tsk tsk tsk* We saw that!! Can't run away! Wa.... a couple of guys followed my order... prata for dinner.
Don't slack. Else, no prata.
I have received quite a fair bit of enquires on my pictures and the camera I use. Get this straight. It a $200+ Canon A410. I would love to have a DSLR very much. If I have that, I think my pictures will pop out from your screen.

Leaving for the airport at Shanghai on a cab, I chatted with the lady cab driver. She asked me what business brought me to China and it lead to me talking about being single. She asked me if I would like to get to know her 26 year old daughter. Ha!
Touched down at 5am and I reached my home at 6am. I wanted to run so bad that I changed to my running attire and went out. My dad thought I was crazy. Maybe I am, afterall. I enjoyed the feeling .. something that I have not had for a long time. My right knee ached a little though.
I rushed back home to bathe, get changed and headed off for a badminton session at Toa Payoh CC. Sigh!!! I forgot to bring my ID along, resulting in not able to borrow books from the library there. I moved over to Geylang East library and found my books eventually. Now, I know.. where to get them.
Next event, 2 lost lambs, half a dozen pairs of chopsticks and a great time. Small affair. Thanks everyone.
Burn Rubber Soon!
Saturday, September 30, 2006
Colleagues here bought me a farewell lunch at a SzeChuan restaurant. Great ready to drip some saliva and wet the floor.
Burp!!!
Good heavens... after all these days of rest and food, I would want to put on my faithful LandrethII and burn some rubber. I can get back to my swim as well. I need to feel the gliding sensation. I have lots of things to try out.
In another few hours time, I shall grab my Tatonka backpack, laptop bag and a bag of teapots, cups and tea to board the plane. I have learned more from this trip.

Back from YanCheng... phew... tiring!! Glad to be back in 上海 hotel again. Lunch at customer's canteen was interesting.
Taking for granted that this is just a $300++ motel.. there will not be any Internet connectivity. Well, what do you know? I am so wrong. Just left with 2 more nights here, I saw a LAN port. *self applied silly slaps* Ta-da!! Online!! But, then again, I had more sleep than before.
I tried to reach Lambie since its her birthday today. Too bad she is in Bangkok and I don't have any SMS "feature". She must be having a "good-good" time now.
Sigh... No Escape
Reaching 盐城, this is mainly a manufacturing city. I do not think there is any interest pictures for me to capture. The number of people per square meters is definite less than Shanghai.
Upon reaching the bus station, it is pretty obvious that we are from elsewhere (even with my China colleague). We were charged RMB $30 for less than 400m!!!! Fortunately, we gave a call to our partners and found that it’s just a stone throw away!! Pirates!! We checked into the hotel and met up with the partners and customer in the room. We went out for dinner and I get to see a wedding at the restaurant we were at. Not a great difference. Pretty interesting… they even served something like Risotto. The next event, I could not escape. Entertainment. I could not go back alone to the hotel since I am sharing the room with my colleague. I cannot use an excuse like “running” too. Of course, nothing much happened. But, I didn’t feel comfortable with the so called entertainment. I can only say that looks can be deceiving. Well, looking on the bright side, I learned how to play a dice game. But, it was more of a white washed. All of them were asking me to relax and just enjoy. Enjoy?! I think I enjoy a 10 or 21km slow run better. Maybe an online game. How about a good slow tea session?!! Since I am a foreigner, I downed quite a number of drinks. I still prefer runs to drinks. Stoned, I just wish to go back home. I miss my bed… absolutely. Super uneasy. I prefer the company of friends and teh tariks.. not these.
SMS-O-Plenty
Tuesday, September 26, 2006
Tomorrow, I will have to take a medium distance road trip on a 4 hours car ride to 盐城. As planned, it will be a night’s stay at 盐城 as well. I would have to shelf the plan for heading out to Nanjing Road to Friday night because I need to prepare the training notes for 盐城’s training. I recalled that there is a tea shop near my hotel area and I decided to visit it before dinner. I managed to get a fair good tea at a reasonable rate. *Smileys* A quick noodle dinner (for tradition) and I am back in the hotel room to start on my training notes.
Yay! AGB will be here on Friday night as well. Coincidentally, we will be taking the same plane back home!! Woopeee!! I have not seen AGB for ages! We would have lots to talk about. However, AGB is on a packaged tour. Getting nearby seats would be extremely difficult. This flight is said to be full.
I can only read SMSes and can't send them. Must be my provider's problem. Thanks everyone for the well wishes. My phone has been beeping (SMSes) and even calls from morning till 10.30pm, last one from Renohtaram. *Grateful* The follow call does NOT count.
Doing my own laundry and then reading a book with coffee in hand, my room phone rang.
Lady: Did you call my number?
Me: What number?
Lady: You called for massage, right?
Me: No. You got it wrong.
Lady: Room ABC, right?
Me: No, I did not call or ask for anything. *taps fingers*
Lady: You want massage?
Me: No. (NB. Nice try….)
Lady: Sorry for disturbing.
Hello. Wake up your idea!!! Bloody fools. Why do I always get such calls? Same when I was here 2 years ago (even at a different hotel?). Just let me read my book. Alright?
Walk In Old Town
Sunday, September 24, 2006
Moving out as planned, I bought biscuits as my breakfast since I could not find any stores that sell breakfast around the area of my stay. I boarded the Metro, bringing me to 人民广场 and was greeted by the familiar Raffles City building. They were not opened then (only starts from 10am). I started my walk in the Old Town of Shanghai, which the route mainly covers old houses. I want to see the daily lives of a normal Shanghainese. No to shopping malls! I took loads of pictures! I skipped 豫园 since I have been there last time. The place is for tourists.
While walking the Old Town, I am delighted to find wet markets, road side stores and shops selling daily necessities. I could even see living quarters, someone’s bed that is just facing the door! Basins just outside your door with people washing their stuff or brushing even their teeth. All these remind us of how fortunate we are.
Along the roads at another side of the town, I was quite saddened by the fact that porn stuff is being sold, by men and women (as well). A lady shouted out to me in chinese, “Come lad, take a look at this. Good stuff!!”. WTF. There were some orally taken “enhancement” products and toys of that sort too. I walked the hardware square that sells lots of interesting (maybe to an engineer) gadgets and tools. Cool!! Oh yeah, I came across many bike stores. However, I could not find anything for EndlessTrail. Cutting through the Old Town, there is a stretch of antiques shops. Nah… not in my interest list because they looked like what we have back at home. But, the old skool cameras caught my eye though!!
Walking back to where I came from, I went into a tea pots shop which I passed earlier on. Ha!! I managed to get two good bargains!! Of course, I do not think that the clay is of top quality. Nevertheless, I am happy for that price I paid for. S$36 for the two tea pots. I bought several different designs of tea cups. I would say I am rather picky in this area. I can accept flaws in the goods or the quality of it. I would judge by the feel of it to determine its worth. Further down the road, I bought some other tea that is not available back at home too. S$50 for two different kinds of tea. Not too bad. Waa… this is some quality retail therapy!!! Super high… cloud nine!!
I found a nice little restaurant and ordered a bowl of 叉烧面 and 小龙包, all for S$2.10!! I shopped a little and walked along the Bund before catching the Metro back.
Can't run, do my stretches then..
Back Alleys
Saturday, September 23, 2006
I followed LonelyPlanet guide to find the tea pot store that they recommended. It is quite a fair distance of walk away from my hotel. The tea pots are indeed of some standard. However, they were a little too pricy to what I would want to fork out at that level.
Since 新天地 is just around the corner, a good 800m away, I walked there while taking pictures along the way. The whole 新天地 is the same as two years back. Well, the only difference is that the restaurant serving our local delights has closed down, taken over by a pizza restaurant.
Wooops.. lunch time. I went to a recommended restaurant selling 锅贴. Let me tell you, it was packed!!! Left with no choice, I went to MacDonalds. S$2 for a mini meal, I could not complain. Alone, getting a seat is difficult. People still want to cut queues everywhere!! POS! After my meal, walking along the familiar 淮海中路, I decided to take the Metro to 徐家汇. Trying to look for the oldest temple in Shanghai, I failed. Some roads have changed and are not reflected on the map. I had to turn back since it was getting late and near the closing time too.
Since I thought of taking my dinner around my hotel area, I dropped my bag and took the Metro again to 静安寺 area's 园园餐厅. Same outcome, a packed restaurant filled with locals. Though not a big place, I got to eat what the local eat, right?! Damn ... Anyway, I was not that hungry yet. I took the Metro back to my hotel stop and walked the back alley around my hotel area. A bazzaar looking stretch and I walked a little since I had a little adventurous voice in me saying, “C’mon!”. I admit that I was really surprised that where this whole stretch led me to. Approximately 600m long of stores selling food and wares in front of restaurants. The whole pack is jam packed with people!! Lots of yummy stuff like smelly toufu, BBQ squids, BBQ buffalo wings, sugar cane juice, cold drinks snacks and more! I chose a safer bet of 锅贴 in a restaurant for S$1. But, I think the lady overcharged everyone since the queue was long. No morals ... Money is everything. I left the stretch and found another restaurant that sells good mushroom noodles for S$1.50. I was bloated by the time I finished the bowl of noodles.
While watching the T.V. program, someone delivered my laundry. What’s wrong with these people?! I could whiff the smell of cigarettes from my 2 pieces of Polo. I can never trust these people. That’s it!!! No more. I flipped the LonelyPlanet guide and planned my route of movement for tomorrow before I fell asleep.
Showdown Of Skills
Friday, September 22, 2006
Yesterday night, I was covered in cold sweat. Rather worried that stuff might turn out to be disastrous, I had to use the "Dial-A-Friend". Fortunately, the upgrade turned out okay with just a few harmless error messages. Tried the salty version of LaiLiaoXia with some other dishes, we ended the night at 11pm and I was already super sleepy.
Late night before and I still have an early morning train to catch for today to 无锡. From what I understand, the trains have hard seats and soft cushions for our selection at different rates. Surprising .. the soft cushion cabin, with air-conditioning, that we took is rather clean. Minus the toilet smell, if you are sitting hear the toilet .... that it. No pictures of 无锡. Just there to conduct training and back.
Some of them wanted "enjoyment" tonight, I found myself some silly excuse, wanting to back to the hotel. "I need to run 10km". Viola!! I skipped the entertainment. Its my choice!
Sad Post
Wednesday, September 20, 2006
I guess the title suggest very much what this whole post will be…. sad. I’m sitting down with a cup of 3-in-1 coffee recollecting what I went through today. Erm… not exactly good coffee though….
This post in particular is just my own opinion. Read at your own risk.
A little late for work today and I am suppose to be lead to the office today by my colleague. Another colleague came lead the way from my hotel to office. Meeting kicked off with some briefing of what is expected for my attachment here. I cleared some Emails with some multitasking chit chats over MSN with some running friends. Lunch was on the house by the local office boss. Sorry no pics on the food, it seemed a little rude to me to take pictures. Pretty decent food to me. Back to work and I received instructions to head over to WuXi for this Friday and JiangSu’s YanCheng next week. Expect to conduct some training to end customers. Just before leaving the office for the day, my Chinese colleagues asked me what I do back at home. I said, "Running". They were not exactly ready to hear the number 42. I told them the Kenyans' timing at average of 2hrs 15mins. They said, "他妈的! 我们二十个人接力都不一定跑得赢!!"
Someone I know from hometown came to Shanghai for leisure today (who happens to be a good friend of the local office boss). We went out for dinner and talked about having me to come back in October to conduct some training to the local engineers here. It seems like drinking (entertaining) is inevitable. I have not been drinking for… lost count. I don’t really enjoy drinking anyway. To entertain, I don’t think one or two mugs of beer would do. Hanging out at a pub with lot of Chinese girls where I don’t really feel comfortable. Seeing a 40-ish Caucasian frenching a Chinese young girl, .. ladies sitting on guys’ thighs .. shit. . .. I just want to get out and read my book in the hotel. Or probably run on the streets. Air over here is not too good. Most of the girls are hanging out with the Caucasians. A Chinese lady (waitress) came over to chat with us, asking us where we are from and what business we have in Shanghai. She said we looked too serious to be approachable. We chatted quite a while before she had to take orders from other tables. Another Chinese lady (but transvestite) looking asked my associates for cigarettes and them to buy her a drink. After giving her some lame excuse that we are leaving, she got pissed and went to another table. Sad to say that my associates are hoping for some hook ups.
We left and took a cab back to our hotel, where I bought some water. Here I am, with my cup of less than satisfied coffee, typing this entry. Damn, I wish I am doing some tracks in stadium, burning some rubber now. Entertaining in this area is just not my cup of tea. Why sad post then? Well, I know for the fact that some “entertainment” (extras) happens around the world. But, work might not be about what you can do (technically). It is about what you can offer and who you know. Sad but true. Maybe one day, when I retire, I shall contribute to charity work, where “entertainment” is not required. It is all about how we contribute through our hearts, sincerely.
Sigh… more “entertainment” this weekend. I will stick to my beliefs. Probably, I am just a stick in the mud. Got to sleep .. still need to do O.T. after office hours tomorrow.
Landed: Pudong, Shanghai
Tuesday, September 19, 2006
Grabbing my pack and heading for Pudong Airport, Shanghai. I did require a bit of reading before falling asleep on the plane. Landed at 3.10pm and major jam at the immigration at Shanghai Pudong Airport. It took me almost an hour before I claimed my luggage and took a cab to my local office. I wanted to take the MagLev train very much. But, I was running short of time. Reaching office, I downloaded some mails before heading out for dinner with the local office boss. I checked in at the hotel alone, unpacking my stuff. I got to do some reading and watching Stephen Henry on TV. He is still good, though he has aged quite a bit.
I have already gotten some feel of “SinCity”. Not that I am experiencing something, but through monitoring people.
Ready For Poopy Pants
Monday, September 18, 2006
Short time for swim today, due to some packing. Just 1.5km. I wish I could do a little more. 3 pratas to reward myself.
I continued my packing. Phew! Just finished.
Ready for some "Shit Hit the Fan" action tomorrow! On Guard!
Night! Over and Out!

Race: KL Mizuno 10km and Terry Fox Run
Sunday, September 17, 2006
Back from KL .... just reached home. Loads of fun and laughter. Write about it soon. Tons of pictures too.
Not sure if I will have time to do a proper FR. Busy tomorrow and will be jetting off to Shanghai in just about another 34hrs time.
Race Prep: KL Mizuno 10km and Terry Fox Run
Saturday, September 16, 2006
Got to wake up to catch a cab down in order picking up Flip and Fennel. Cannot oversleep. 7 person will throw choppers and knives at me if I fail to appear. Stress... so worried that I have several alarms to separate me from my bed at 6am.
Most have arrived once we reached Golden Mile. Hey! Hanseng (Beng's friend) is going to KL for shopping as well. But, he is on a different bus. I heard the sound of jaws dropping on the floor when I said I am going there to run. Another surprise character / familar face when I board the bus. Benson whom I got to know through diving. He shruddered in disbelief when I said I am going to race in KL. Passed through the immigration without much hassle and we got to play some movies at our own personal LCD T.V. Since I did not watch Ice Age, X-men and Sahara before, I watched these three movies before falling asleep. We soon reached KL around 2 or 3 pm and went on foot to our hotel for check in. We deposited our packs in the room, slacked a little before heading over to Jalan Alor and then to Petaling. Walking around the stores, we had to stop by at the famous longan drink store for a thirst quencher. Look at our model for the store.
Uh-oh... sound of thunder accompanied by dark clouds closing fast, signaled to us that we should seek shelter soon. DoraemonRed suggested to stop for a tea break. Dark Soya Fried Hokkien Mee for tea break?! How sinful. We had some Kailan and lime juice to wash all the grease down. Impeccable timing! Once we finished up our food, walked out to one of the exits, the rain changed to a drizzle. We started to make our way back to Sungei Wang, meeting IMD and his MHA for some shopping and dinner. What's next?! Some asked. Hotel was next. We met Seal and his MHA, since he is collecting his RealRun goodie pack from me. Too bad, the couple had plans for the night. The rest of us (DoraemonRed, TKTan, Roger, IMD, IMD MHA, Shutehelup, SV and me) went to Jalan Alor for supper. Fennel and Flip decided to crash out and retire for the night.
They missed some teh tariks, fried maggi mee and sinful Rainbow Sago. Heh heh heh. Aww... we were really tired by then. Retreat!! Back to the hotel, bathed and prepared my gear before I slept.
Lunch N Errands
Thursday, September 14, 2006
*Growling stomach* Lunch time! Rushing off to run some errands together with a lunch appointment, I saw a familiar face wavng at me. Ho ho! It was Divey! We chatted a while and KJ soon popped by. The gals are having lunch together at Chinatown. Oooops.. gotta go! Tata, ladies!
Fights & Foods
Wednesday, September 13, 2006
Moving around the area, waiting for my next appointment, I bought a cold drink and stood around enjoying the greenery. Someone slapped my left shoulder with newspapers. Ooops... It was Mrs. Fong. We had a short chat before she went back to her office.
Fight fight fight... at least with the software. Plus some explanation of concepts and trying to educate people's mindset.
Great to receive a phone call from an ex-colleague who is now... with Beng. Ha!! Touched. We had a short chat on my mobile on recent issues and stuff. Got to meet up one of these days.
Dinner with a couple of guys over at a "recommended" restaurant.
Main course plus desserts. We'll let the pictures do the talking.
A Quick Dash Visit
Tuesday, September 12, 2006
Since BengTrainer was still feeling a little wozzy yesterday, we decided to pay them a visit at the ward today. I had to do a quick disappearing act during lunch time with RLEK. I bought some nourishment for the mummy and food for the dad. Beng Jr. screamed with his eyes closed. One tough cookie! Hungry? Maybe? This little fiery bundle of joy is one cute fella. Beng winked at me, "Fatherhood? Join us!"
This ain't no recruitment poster / slogan!
There are just some thoughts. But, I shall just leave them where they are.
Running late for the usual run today due to last minute meeting at customer's office. By the time I reached, I saw most of them crossing the traffic lights just in front of my cab. Late. I began typing my report since I am alone. Compass and SV came ... later than I am. Since I'm still in my office wear, I told them to go ahead. 5 minutes later, Cfred arrived too. But, I guess he wasn't going to run. We chatted about their recent race on Desaru. Let me do my Ironman 70.3 Triathlon next year!
